Preschool Program (ages 2-4)

At Boostan Kids we believe that natural materials in a simple, soothing and structured environment foster an atmosphere where children can thrive and their love of learning will flourish. As a proud member of the Golestan Heritage Language Collaborative we are privileged to have access to the rich and dynamic curriculum of the Golestan Kids program in Berkeley (www.golestankids.com). A large majority of our teaching materials are Montessori based, while Reggio teaching principles influences our emergent curriculum driven by the students’ personal interest. Our aesthetics and affinity for all that is natural and not branded and emphasis on imaginative play and storytelling are directly borrowed from Waldorf philosophies.

Both the morning preschool program and afternoon toddler enrichment programs follow a monthly theme schedule. These themes are intentionally connected to each other to create a cohesive and rich understanding of the world we live in. By the time a child graduates from Boostan, s/he will have a deep breadth of knowledge that goes above and beyond standard Kindergarten preparedness.

Both our morning and afternoon programs focus on teaching empathy, sharing, role-playing, and the development of good listening and communication skills. The children also develop social and self-help skills in a warm and nurturing environment.

Music is an integral part of our day. Singing songs and poems with creative movement help children learn language while expressing themselves physically.

Practical life activities such as sorting, pouring and manipulating are daily activities for the children. Our art program is exceptionally rich and exciting; children learn to work with various media such as watercolors, tempera, clay, collage, pastels and more. By fully exploring each medium, children are able to distinguish the way each looks and feels. Art projects are never product-driven, rather, the richness of our daily experiences are highlighted. Weekly science and nature classes help to further support a child’s deep understanding of the world we live in.

The Preschool program is structured to include a healthy, homemade lunch, plus one morning snack.
